As smartphones become a part of our daily lives, smartphone addiction has recently become a social issue in many countries. This study explores factors that affect smartphone addiction and the consequences of addictive behaviors. Compulsive smartphone use is the mediating variable between factors behind smartphone addiction and its consequences. These driving factors and their consequences make an integrated model of smartphone addiction. In the model, there are four driving factors (flow, enjoyment, preference for social life, and escape reality) and three consequences (neglect of social life, anxiety, and subjective happiness). Based on the SEM (structural equation model) analysis of 497 survey responses, these four driving factors each have a significant effect on the compulsive use of smartphones directly or indirectly; the compulsive use of smartphones directly influences the three results. Except for the relationship between compulsive smartphone use and subjective happiness, all other relationships are positively related. Among the four driving factors, escape reality is the strongest factor influencing smartphone addiction and its consequences. Among the three outcomes of smartphone addiction, anxiety is the number one consequence influenced by compulsive use of smartphones.
This study presents an engineeringly improved image-based steganography method to secure the personal shares generated within counting-based secret sharing. The share keys are normally produced without giving participants any preference for remembrance making involving this steganography as applicable tool for this challenge. This research adjusts the image steganography redistribution to embed share keys tested on colour stego-covers. The proposed method ensured that the shares hiding least-significant-bits locations differ within images to increase the level of practicality. The paper experimentation performance analysis show that this improved stego-image capacity is averagely better 33% than other steganography XOR oriented schemes as well as enhanced 67% over previous Steganography octagon approaches. Interestingly, these capacity improvements didn’t degrade the robustness and security of the system, motivating this research to be an opening direction for future coming improvements.
Information Technology (IT) has become an integral part of modern business. This is evidenced by how IT supports businesses through communication, information storage, information retrieval and reporting amongst other key business tasks. Cloud computing provides information technology facilities, platform and various applications through the internet at minimum start-up cost, and pay-per-use services. However, the potential of cloud computing is prominent as much of the research has been carried out in developed countries. Although less research has been conducted in developing countries like yet, there seems to be good zeal of adopting cloud computing technology. The objective of this paper was to critically examine the factors that impact cloud computing adoption in SMEs in India. In order to achieve our objective, the researcher conducted as survey based study to examine the relation between cost reduction, reliability, security, risk, pressure and cloud adoption. All the factors except risk showed a positive significant impact on cloud adoption.
Abstract\nIntroduction: Gender based Violence is any violent act that results (or is likely to) in, physical, sexual, or mental harm or suffering to women. \nAim: The purpose was to understand an abstract construct and generic phenomenon, of gender violence in its contemporary form within a defined geographical area with real life circumstances from the viewpoint of a victim. \nMethodology: A small intrinsic qualitative case-study was conducted in April 2018 in Ceuta, Spain to assess personal meanings, experiences, feelings, knowledge and thoughts on various aspects concerning gender violence. Data was collected via an unstructured interview and the respondent’s identity and personal details were safeguarded. Thematic analysis was used in order to narrate findings in a cohesive manner and the Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative research guidelines were used to ensure thorough reporting of the results.\nResults: The interview lasted for 40 minutes, and after initial introduction and greetings, followed by full explanations on the study’s purposes plus informed consent obtained, an open discussion followed as illustrated by the excerpts from the actual interview.\nDiscussion: The interviewee’s personal account resembled a well recognized cycle of various phases that a victim of gender based violence goes through. The pattern of her unique story is well recognized within this paradigm of gender violence.\nConclusions: Despite advances in the social environment as enjoyed in most western countries, perspective of this issue needs further elaboration as women are more than often found in a position of inferiority with respect to men.
With the infusion of digital technology and the Internet into every walk of life, the world is becoming open. Open Education (OE) facilitated by digital technology not only provides learning opportunities to those who are unable to access educational resources and practices, but also provides high-quality resources to those who wish to achieve higher goals. The policy is one of the many strategies to accelerate the development of education equity and quality. This paper reviews OE\'s policies and discusses policies at four levels: the overall policies for OE, policies for open standards, specific policies for constructing Open Education Resources (OER), and OE policies embedded in other education strategic plans. Policies from different countries and regions are introduced and analyzed in these four levels. Finally, this paper puts forward some suggestions on the policy of opening education at the national level.
The objective of this study is to develop a decision-making model for the Brazilian electricity sector, based on sectoral indicators of energy sustainability. The methodology of this investigation constructed sectorial indicators of energy sustainability, from linear correlations verified between variables of the energy input and development variables, whose results fed a decision-making structure supported by technology, norms and rules and in the decision style. The place of study was the State of Pará and the time span between 2010 and 2019. The investigation concluded the need to re-read the decision-making process in the Brazilian electricity sector, through the essential use of a sectorial system of indicators, which demonstrates strategic respect for the specificities the economic sectors and to guide, through a decision-making model, how electricity can be translated into development based on the productive processes of these sectors. This study, which presents a suggestion for this system of indicators and can be applied to any Brazilian state, points out that public actions in Pará should promote an increase in energy autonomy, redirection of the industrial profile, inclusion of compensatory devices for environmental costs and targeting from strategic investments to the increase of Gross Intensive Product.
The study aims to determine the current implementations being used in foreign language curriculums and define how to use culture effectively in language learning environments according to the teachers’ ideas, considering that language and culture are inseparable. Descriptive Phenomenology has been chosen as the design of the study. 17 English Lecturers from the school of foreign languages of a government university in Turkey have been selected as a study group using a purposive sampling method. A semi-structured interview form has been used and carried out through face-to-face interviews in the data gathering process. The data has been analysed content analysis method and then coded and categorized under main teams, which have been established based on the study\'s sub-questions. In this regard, two main themes and 11 codes have been defined in detail with the researcher\'s literature references. According to the findings of the study, it has been understood that there is a continuous interaction between language and culture; therefore, one cannot be acquired totally or may be imperfect, and especially a language learned without its culture may cause miscommunication. Consequently, culture should be integrated into each phase of language teaching and learning process.
